We understand

If you feel anxious about dental treatment — even about walking through the door — you are not alone. Dental anxiety affects roughly 1 in 4 adults. It is one of the most common reasons people avoid the dentist for years.

At Station House, anxious patients are not rushed, not judged and not made to feel silly. Your dentist explains every step before it happens, checks in throughout, and stops the moment you raise your hand. You are always in control.

Our approach

Your first appointment is just a conversation. We listen to what makes you anxious. We examine only when you are ready. Treatment is planned at a pace you are comfortable with. For patients who need extra support, sedation options can be discussed.

The Psychology of Dental Anxiety — What We Know

Dental anxiety affects approximately one in four UK adults to some degree. For roughly 12% of the population, the anxiety is severe enough to be classified as dental phobia — causing avoidance of treatment even when pain or infection is present. The causes are well-documented: previous traumatic dental experiences, feelings of lack of control during treatment, needle phobia, fear of pain, and embarrassment about the condition of the teeth.

At Station House the approach is clinical, not just reassuring. We use validated anxiety management techniques: tell-show-do (explaining and demonstrating before performing), pre-agreed stop signals, extended appointment times to remove time pressure, use of the Wand computer-controlled anaesthetic delivery system (which eliminates the sensation of a large volume of anaesthetic delivered quickly), and where required, discussion of conscious sedation options.

Many of our nervous patients had gaps of years or decades before finding a dentist they could trust. The most common feedback we receive is not about the treatment itself — it is about the team taking time to listen. That is not a technique. It is simply how we practice dentistry.
