When you need a crown

A crown is needed when a tooth is too damaged for a filling — after a fracture, extensive decay, root canal treatment, or years of wear. The crown covers the entire visible tooth, protecting the structure underneath and restoring its shape, strength and appearance.

At Station House, crowns are made from ceramic or porcelain — not metal. They are shade-matched to your surrounding teeth so the result looks completely natural.

The process

Two appointments. At the first, your dentist prepares the tooth, takes impressions and fits a temporary crown. At the second (1–2 weeks later), the permanent crown is cemented in place. The preparation is done under local anaesthetic. Fitting is usually comfortable.

Common questions

Does it hurt?

Preparation is done under local anaesthetic. You feel pressure, not pain. Fitting the permanent crown is comfortable.

How long do crowns last?

10–15 years with good care. Regular check-ups allow your dentist to monitor the crown.

Crown vs filling?

Fillings replace small areas of damage. Crowns cover the entire tooth when damage is too extensive for a filling.
