When extraction is needed

Extraction is a last resort. We always try to save a tooth first. But sometimes a tooth is too damaged, decayed, or infected to restore. Impacted wisdom teeth and teeth loosened by advanced gum disease may also need extraction.

Extractions are performed under local anaesthetic. You feel pressure but not pain. Simple extractions take 10–20 minutes. Surgical extractions take longer and may involve a small incision.

After extraction

Written aftercare instructions provided. Mild soreness for 2–3 days managed with standard painkillers. Most patients return to normal activities the next day. Replacement options (implant, bridge, denture) discussed at the same appointment.

Replace the gap promptly: Adjacent teeth drift within weeks. The jawbone shrinks. These changes are permanent and make future treatment more complex and expensive.

Common questions

Does it hurt?

No. Local anaesthetic ensures you feel pressure only.

Should I replace the tooth?

In most cases, yes. A gap allows adjacent teeth to drift.

Recovery time?

2–3 days of mild soreness. Most return to work next day.
