Wisdom Tooth Pain
Wisdom tooth pain is common as teeth try to emerge. If severe, recurring, or with swelling, you need assessment. Call us.
Emergency from £67.20. Extraction from £168.
Why wisdom teeth cause problems
Most people lack jaw space for wisdom teeth. When partially erupted, the gum flap traps food and bacteria — causing pericoronitis. Symptoms: pain at the back of the mouth, difficulty opening the jaw, swelling, bad taste.
Not all wisdom teeth need removing. Extraction is recommended when the tooth is impacted, repeatedly infected, decayed, or damaging adjacent teeth. An X-ray assesses position and determines the right course.
Treatment
For acute pericoronitis: same-day relief — cleaning, irrigation, antibiotics if needed. If extraction is recommended, it is performed under local anaesthetic. Simple extractions: 10–20 minutes. Surgical: longer. Recovery: 3–5 days.
When to call us
Call if pain is severe, you cannot open your mouth, there is swelling, or you have fever. These indicate active infection needing same-day treatment.
