What is composite bonding?
Composite bonding uses tooth-coloured resin to reshape your teeth. Your dentist sculpts the material directly onto the tooth surface — building up chipped edges, closing gaps, smoothing uneven contours and covering discolouration. The result looks natural because it is shaped by hand, one layer at a time, by a clinician with an eye for aesthetics.
Unlike porcelain veneers, bonding requires no permanent removal of tooth enamel. It is completed in a single visit. And in most cases, no anaesthetic injection is needed — making it one of the most comfortable cosmetic treatments available.
At Station House, bonding is one of our most requested treatments. Dr Jarmima Uddin — winner of the BACD Best Overall Case 2024 — brings a level of artistic precision that is rare outside London or Manchester. She treats every case as a piece of craft, not a production line.
What happens at your appointment
1
Discuss your goals
You tell us what bothers you. We show shade options, discuss the approach and give you a written quote.
2
Prepare the surface
No drilling. The tooth is gently etched so the resin bonds securely. No injection needed in most cases.
3
Sculpt and shape
Composite resin is layered on, shaped by hand and hardened with a curing light. This is the artistic step.
4
Polish and finish
Fine polishing gives the bonding a natural lustre. We check together before you leave with your new smile.
What bonding can — and cannot — fix
Chipped or broken edges — the most common reason patients book. Whether from biting something hard or old childhood trauma, bonding rebuilds the natural contour so convincingly that even your dentist would struggle to spot it.
Gaps between teeth — particularly a central diastema (the gap between your two upper front teeth). Bonding closes or reduces the gap without braces and without altering the tooth underneath.
Discolouration that whitening cannot fix — teeth darkened by trauma, tetracycline staining from childhood, or fluorosis can be covered with a thin layer of composite for a uniformly bright, natural result.
Slightly uneven or short teeth — bonding can optically straighten a mildly rotated tooth or add length to a worn edge, creating the appearance of alignment without orthodontics.
What bonding is less suited for: severe structural damage (which may need a crown), significant crowding (which needs Invisalign or braces), or patients wanting maximum stain resistance and longevity (where porcelain veneers are the better option). We will always tell you honestly which treatment is right.
Bonding vs porcelain veneers
This is the question patients ask most, and the honest answer is that they solve different problems. Bonding is the right choice when the changes needed are modest, you want to avoid permanent enamel removal, and you want results the same day. Veneers are the better choice when you need a dramatic colour change, maximum longevity, or transformation across 6-10 teeth.

How long does bonding last?
The honest answer: 5 to 7 years on average, with some cases lasting longer. Longevity depends on where the bonding is placed (front teeth last longer than biting surfaces), how well you look after it, and whether you grind your teeth at night.
Unlike porcelain, composite can be repaired and refreshed. A small chip does not mean starting again — your dentist can patch it in minutes. A stained edge can be re-polished. This repairability is one of bonding's genuine advantages over more expensive alternatives.
Aftercare that matters: avoid biting nails, opening packaging with your teeth, and strongly coloured food for the first 48 hours. Brush with a non-abrasive toothpaste. If you grind at night, wear a custom night guard — without exception. Regular hygienist appointments keep the bonding polished and stain-free.

Common questions
How much does composite bonding cost?
From £350 per tooth. Most patients have 4–8 teeth bonded. A full written quote is provided at your £40 consultation — no surprises. 0% finance available over 6 or 10 months.
Does it hurt?
No. Composite bonding is virtually painless. No injection is needed in most cases. If you are anxious, our team is experienced at helping nervous patients feel comfortable.
Can bonding close gaps?
Yes — it is one of the most effective and immediate ways to close or reduce gaps between teeth. No braces needed. Results are visible the same day.
Should I whiten my teeth first?
Yes — if you want whiter teeth. Bonding is colour-matched at application, so if you whiten afterwards, your natural teeth lighten but the bonding stays the original shade. Whiten first, then bond to match. View whitening →
How is bonding different from veneers?
Bonding is applied directly in one visit and is reversible. Veneers are lab-crafted, require two visits, and involve permanent enamel removal — but last longer and resist staining better. Your dentist will recommend the right option at consultation.
